Putting together an aquarium full of different species of tropical fish is a learning experience. A first time aquarium builder may need to start with a cold water tank in order to learn about the care of fish. Warm water aquariums take more time to maintain and the species of tropical fish that live in a warm water tank need a clean home. Consider the time commitment needed to determine which type of tank you want to create. Species Of Tropical Fish That Will Live In A Warm Water Tank Make sure to prepare the environment for your species of tropical fish. To start a warm water aquarium, you will need an aquarium, a stand, a power filter, an aquarium cover and a bio-wheel, which is a filter. Make sure that you also have fish food and a net to work with the species of tropical fish that you will be using. Fill up the tank with tap water and then use a water conditioner to prepare the water. Plug in the filter to begin preparing the tank. Next plug in a heater, the water should be kept at 78 to 80 degrees for the fish. Let the tank adjust for at least three days before adding any species of tropical fish. A good choice for the beginner is to select a species of tropical fish that is hardy, such as the Zebra Danio. This fish is energetic and lively, and lives companionably with other fish as well as its own species. If after several weeks, the tank is still clean looking, the fish are doing well and you’re beginning to feel more comfortable with the whole fish tank experience, it may be time to add some more species of tropical fish. Several other Danio species can be added including the Gold and Leopard type. Gouramis can also be added, as they are a sturdy fish that also works well in a community of fish. Make sure when purchasing these species of tropical fish, that you learn what type of food is best for them and how to introduce them into your tank environment. Some other good choices of species of tropical fish for a warm water tank include Black Skirt Tetras, Mollies, Red Tail Shark or Rainbow Shark. With the shark species, only place one in your tank, as they are aggressive. Ghost Shrimp, Mystery Snails and Crabs all make a good addition to any tank and are interesting to watch. Before selecting the species of tropical fish that will be in a tank, first determine the type of tank that you will be creating. Keep in mind the commitment level for a warm water tank is higher than the cold tank.
