Putting together a freshwater tropical fish tank can take a lot of research and time. Specific fish may not do well with other fish, or they need specific environments in order to live. Learning about the different freshwater tropical fish, can help narrow down the list when it comes to determining which fish will work best in the space that a consumer has for their aquarium. Types Of Freshwater Tropical Fish Again, there are many different breed of freshwater tropical fish; and some contain several sub species. The Betta and Gouramie group has several kinds of freshwater tropical fish in their group. The “Kissing Gouramie” is one type. This freshwater tropical fish, looks like it is puckered up to kiss. They can get up to 12 inches long and generally do well within a group, although some can be rather territorial. They will eat almost anything and are fairly easy to care for. A common Betta fish is the Siamese Fighter. The males of the species are very beautiful, with a variety of colors and extremely large tails. The males can not be put together as they will fight to the death. The females can be grouped together, but also can be territorial. It is best to keep these fish by themselves in a tank with some plants. Some more freshwater tropical fish belong to the Rainbow fish group. These colorful fish can make a very attractive addition to a fish tank. Most of these freshwater tropical fish come from the Australia/Asian continents and Madagascar. Many times, the juveniles of these species do not have much color and people have a tendency to ignore them in a store, but once they mature they are beautiful. One of these freshwater tropical fish is the Neon Rainbow. The males of the species have red fins and the females orange. They are another easy to care for freshwater tropical fish, which will eat anything. They work well in a community and socialize fine with each other and other species. Boesemans Rainbow is another freshwater tropical fish, that when they are mature have great color. They can get up to 5 inches long and the males have a tendency to be thicker looking. These peaceful fish are lovely to watch as they swim in the tank. They will eat anything, but do like some live food. Putting together a freshwater tropical fish tank is a fun experience that will give hours of enjoyment.
